I know what you are thinking. What the world really needs is ANOTHER BLOG, right?!?..... Nonetheless, I have decided to start this anonymous blog. I am a school principal. While I don't derive my entire identity from my professional occupation, it still influences how I see the world, and to a certain extent, how I am seen.
I would dare to say that I am not your typical school principal. In fact, during my formative grade school years, I was always the proverbial class clown. Year after year, I was awarded the yearbook superlative of 'most witty" by my classmates. I worked hard to show my buddies that I deserved this dubious distinction, often in the process, giving my teachers hell. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time in my principals' offices over the years. It's ironic that I now spend the days of my adulthood in a principal's office, just like I did as a kid. I guess you can say in some ways I am like a bad cop, because I know the "tricks of the trade."
Some days a school can be a glorious sanctuary for leaning and playing. Other days a school can feel like a germ-filled hormone-ridden petri dish. Make no mistake; despite the frequently employed sardonic tone in my musings, on most days I love what I do for a living. I truly enjoy working in a school with students, parents, and teachers. Learning and transmitting information to help others is what drives me.
On some level, I hope that these chronicles will give some insight and information about current trends in today's schools and classrooms. It's no easy task for parents to raise children in today's ever-confusing accelerated culture. Hopefully this blog can be a resource in this regard as well.... And at the very least, I hope these rants will make people laugh at some of the follies and foibles which occur during my school daze.
Hold on. It's going to be a wild ride...... and do me a favor, spit out your gum out and tuck your shirt in.
Note: No real names are used in this blog, and for obvious reasons, I will not reveal my identity, my school, or my location.... Remember when the ringside announcer would introduce a masked wrestler before a match who hailed from "parts unknown"? I am that grappler. Let's rumble!
